Let's Bunk.............Why Not?

If anybody ask me what is the most interesting chapter of your college life? I will certainly and happily say bunking. And I believe the answer will be same for 90% of college buddies. We always like to be out of bookish burden. Being with friends, movie, hiking and all these masti has become the part of college students in most cities in Nepal. Go for a date with a girlfriend. If don’t have one, hike with friends. It is very interesting to catch premier show of the latest movie in town. Whenever, it becomes difficult to deceive a guard then blowout canteen.

Everybody has a dream to get admission in big, reputed college. And from the next day they got admitted the dream starts to wrack up and in few weeks the sweet dream becomes a nightmare. When we get admission in so called good colleges we get torture as granted as if it is a buy one gets one free scheme. Boring lecture, long established syllabus, harsh discipline and theatrical environment are sufficient to make our college life awful. Students hardly like to attend classes and if they do so then irritating lecture from some giddy instructor, assignment, test, practices and other burden will never help us bounce back to classes. So, we want to make sure we don't keep ourselves cooped up all day, staying up late studying and not having fun.

Now it’s time to say why we are impelled to bunk classes? First of all, why not talk about our university and syllabus. Oh! God what kooky university? Won’t have a VC for months, if got one will be a part of filthy politics. Then what to hope from such a poor planner? We are taught the syllabus that was made decades ago. I heard that it was revised last when my dad was a university student. Isn’t it a joke? Yes, see friends how we are made a part of cheap joke. Not only university but also colleges contribute us a lot for our outing plans. Established by an entrepreneur for the motive of earning and promoted by diseased marketing policy, our colleges are no more than a honey pie for the business man. The infrastructures that are shown only in the pamphlets and the banners and never seen by the students in their entire college tenure are of no use. Rarely found basketball court and TT board on principal’s room won’t hold us in the college for 6 hrs so think guys why no bunking?

I here want to draw the attention of our planner. What is the use of lectures that are hardly attended by students? Are you sure that this syllabus can carry on with Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge? Can these colleges give the good future to the nation? Please think genuinely for the sake of your children, for the sake of our future and for the change we are talking about.

Nepal........ An Unidentified Problem

From 10 o’clock in the morning every Nepali channel were broadcasting live from Sainik Manch Tudikhel. Dance, song, military parade, sport exhibition and many more. Everybody was suited in fine daura surwal and military officer in their magnificent suits. Now I hope you all figured out what am I talking about? If not let me notify you that today is the First Republic Day in Nepal. And the scene I cited earlier was the majestic program organized by The Government of Nepal to mark the first anniversary of the historic day 15th Jesth, The Proclamation of Federal Republic of Nepal. The people in the TV screen were in high spirit satisfied within them. These people are as clear as crystal. They want to rule at any cost. Maybe they don’t know for what but they want power. They think just about them and their types.

But here I am reproaching them, blaming them for my awful condition. I wished to be happy because it was my dream to be free and live as a sovereign citizen despite that I’m feeling low. Because there is a great difference between those happy faces of the television screen and my grumpy mask. Yes I am the mask because I have many thing mystic within me. I am confused and lost. Lost in the street filled with trash that couldn’t be disposed for many weeks, lost in the misty darkness of the town where people are driven to live, lost in the city full of people who are thirsty for days and are lining in front of public tap, lost in the country where vehicles are lined for days to get petrol. Yes friends I’m lost like the network of our telecom. That is why I’m confused. And I am confused because I don’t find the congruency between the definition of freedom that I was taught by my teacher when I was kid and the freedom I’m experiencing now. I am confused whether that freedom gives me a career, gives my kids a future or gives us the great nation.

Now I don’t understand what is our problem? Is this the immense love for daura surwal of our leader or is this the boundless desire of we people? I don’t think expecting healthy drinking water, hygienic food, clean cities, easy access to fuel, electricity to light our houses, safe and trouble free highways, good telecom network, well managed traffic, and strike free universities can be depicted as boundless desire. So I think we are not the problem. And what about those silly faces who love daura surwal? I can’t understand them because I don’t have the power to catch on those complex and covetous mind.

Travel Warning for Tourist Travelling Nepal

How will you response when a rich country issue travel warning saying “Political violence remains a problem in Nepal, various party subgroups, continues to engage in extortion, abuse, and threats of violence, political parties or community groups frequently call strikes, or bandhs, and have threatened physical violence to Nepali and non-Nepali alike for violating these strikes”. I ask this question to few of my friends then I got pleasing answer “It’s nothing, these facts are true and they are concern about the security of their citizen”. I was also quit satisfied. Why not? This is the land where every year more than 800 strike are called, a person kill a man and become the CCM of a political party next day, 16000 people were slaughter for a political motive, and everyday people are threatened to abandon their houses in the village and are forced to live as a internal refugee. So, why I won’t be with my friends?

I saw this humiliating travel warning in the official web site of US Government. Then I start comparing America with Nepal. American citizen are scared of Nepal, they are shortening their stay in Nepal, American thinks that they are going through the nightmare while walking in the street of Kathmandu seeing all those strike, tear gas, curfew, latthi charge etc. Whereas, we Nepali are dying to go US, we demonstrate against embassy for not allowing us visa, we call US our land of nod. Every year thousands of Nepali are flying to their dreamland hoping for their bright career. Don’t know how many of them have achieved their dream but it is sure that their dream is not shattered into nightmare. We here in Nepal are living in filthy condition. With no hope, no future and living just for survival.

This doesn’t mean I am hopeless. I have a hope to live a life, not only for survival but also for the betterment. This is true that we are all messed up but there is also a chance. All we have to do is grab that chance. At this time I am thinking about the quote “नेपाल सुन्दर, शान्त, बिशाल” ” written by the great poet Laxmi Pd. Devkota. What would he say if he was alive? This was the first thing that came to my mind while I was reading that travel warning. And I was ashamed of myself reading that article where we were portrayed as catastrophes. But this is my earnest request to you all that let’s come together and bring Nepal out in front so that America will never have to issue such type of travel warning.

Smoke Enjoy n Be a Burden

Every morning I walk to college I go past through several café in New Baneshwor where I see many scary picture of contemporary Nepal. Each of these café is filled with youngsters holding branded cigarette in their hand. Smiling faces hardly seen in the smoke filled café, laughing and enjoying themselves far from the sorrow and pain. Mostly what strikes in my mind is that how can they be so happy doing such a deleterious thing. Every year thousands of people are dying of smoking, many millions suffering from its side effects and yet these youth having known to this fact they stick to it.

What is that force that drives them towards this suicidal act? Is it that they want to ruin their life? It surely isn’t coz nobody in full swing of their life wants to be on the hell. Or is it that everybody are smoking and why not I? Then you are wrong bro. It’s not other it is you. It is your life that matters here. If you suffer then there will be nobody on your side saying that”he was my dude, we used to smoke together so I should help him”. No never. You’ll be left there alone. You yourself deserted on some corner in agony.

Some of you may think that if stunning Penelope Cruz was found smoking on public place, Olympic star Michal Phelps smokes using a bong, if Barak Obama takes smoke break whenever he is stress. Then who won’t dare to smoke. But guys be careful this is your life it’s not drama or a movie where everything seems lively and real but all is fake. What I like to say is that please think at least one time before you lit a cigarette that am I doing good? If you convince yourself then what can I say. Enjoy your life. And be a burden to this wonderful world.
