Career Career Career

Dear friends,

Last few days I was thinking about what actually we can do in Nepal. What are the fields where our future is secure, where we can pursue our dreams? This thought came to my mind when Real Madrid signed the Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo for the record breaking £80 million bid. You know it very well that we Nepali always think that medical, engineering and pilots are the only field which give us status and no doubt money also. Our parents don’t want their children to have other field in mind also. They give these careers much emphasis and pump up our mind so much that we see ourselves in a white apron with a stethoscope round our neck or flying planes. As a result a child when asked what your aim kid, then the answers simply is a doctor or an engineer or point toward the sky. And I’m not amazed in this because I too had a dream wearing white apron. And am sure that you too had the same. This is no more than the childhood fantasy. When time comes to choose our career this will count no more as it is far beyond how things are.

Recently SLC result is out and thousands of youngsters are thinking about their career. The trend of our society is that if you’ve scored distinction then you just join science, first division management, and second humanities and so on. We always make a choice of our career according to our score not with accordance to our dream. In most cases our senior decides what we should be in future. So SLC guys don’t bother about it, just go for what your parent say. This isn’t bad also as every parents want their children futures with flying colors. And I’m sure your parents also want the same. Sports, entertainment, tourism, literature, journalism, research etc that are so renowned in other country are hardly considered as a profession in Nepal. Low payment and lower status of the professional in society are the key issue that tends these job to be a low profile job in our society. So why wasting time thinking about them?

The books that are sold few thousand copies will be the Bestseller in Nepali literature and that isn’t sufficient to earn the living also. Anil Gurung being the most paid player in Nepal receives only NRS 0.32 million annually. Nepali movie made on the total budget of few million rupees aren’t sufficient to make entertainment as an industry. Comparing the stardom of global celebrities like Michal Jackson, AR Rahaman, Tom Hanks, JLo and ours is a witticism. And more than that nobody give a shit about our celebrities. Tourism though having lion’s share in our national economy isn’t risk free. Frequent strikes, unsafe and unmanaged transportation and juvenile communication system is sure to bring your tourism career to a ruin. These are the few examples of contemporary Nepal. Everything we see and everywhere we go nothing is good. Who can think of a career where 70% are unemployed and millions are flying abroad seeking jobs. So either manage yourself in medicine or engineering or find a way out of this hopeless land. Otherwise you’ll be considered as a looser here.

For those who want to fight for their career in Nepal, always remember “LIVE WELL. IT IS THE GREATEST REVANGE".

Wising for the bright and pleasant career.

R’mes
