The Butcher’s Shop

It had been several weeks since the same aberrant scene drew my attention. Long queue waiting outside the meat shop was something like vehicles lined up in front of the gas station. As winter evening grew more chilly power cut off starts and you left without an option. Everybody spend their evening roaming around the streets. And I'm not the exception. So I found myself in between the useless crowds; on road side cafes, newspaper stands and video shops. And this has been the winter lifestyle of our urban population in last few years. But that crowd aligning in front of The Butcher's Shop had been an exception. Last evening on my way to the roadside café I asked them "Is there the scarcity of meat in town?" one of them answered "No, it's not that. We came here because it's the best meat store in town"." Owa! The best Butcher's Shop in Town" I murmured giving sarcastic smile in reply.

The smoke filled café in the dim light of candle remind me of Kainlo Kaka's Café in my village. The radio lying on the corner of the shop was broadcasting drama about girls trafficking. The lady was yelling at the gentleman "You man are like the Butcher, you play with our emotion, give us sweet dreams and then you just sell us like sheep and goats". The cold chill went past through the body and that dialogue was so intense that I being a man couldn't hold my head high. As I was wondering whether the analogy of Butcher suits man, it was already 7 pm and Radio Nepal started broadcasting news. The headline starts like this "The leader of opposition reveals that government is planning to make our country the Butcher's Shop". I was not being able to figure out one analogy and here comes the other one. This politics kind of thing, it's complicated so I didn't try to make sense of that headline. I had a cup of tea and by the time Radio Nepal start broadcasting English news I was on my way back home.

The street were empty so does the best butcher shop in town. It was really cold outside. I thought a warm mutton soup will make my evening. So I was there inside the meat store asking for mutton. The digital screen displaying the price list was hanged on the wall. Marbled floor and tiled wall, separate cabin for Mutton, Chicken, Pork and Buff, employees well suited in white apron and cap, glass partitions and good storage facility; I then realized "yes, it's the best meat store in town". When I was handed my purchase, I asked the employee; a boy with animated smile at his late teenage "What is your dream?" the answer again brought the same kind of chill "I want to open the meat store of my own, like the best Butcher's Shop in town". "Uff! The Butcher's Shop" it just sliped out of my mouth as I left the meat store.

The Trail to Explore Me in Me

Writing: Its boom, it's magic. When I started writing, I discovered that I was doing more than just telling a story. See, writing is a weapon, and it's more powerful than a fist can ever be. Every time I sat down to write, I could rise above the walls of this prison. I could look out over the walls all across the state of New Jersey, and I could see Nelson Mandela in his cell writing his book. I could see Huey. I could see Dostoyevsky. I could see Victor Hugo, Emile Zola. And they would say to me, "Rube, what you doin' in there?" And I say, "Hey, I know all you guys." These are the lines recited by Denzel Washington staring as Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in a movie "Hurricane". Every time I sat down to write, these lines always buzz around my ears and the vim, the delight with which Denzel whisper these word drives me along the path of atonement. It was the day I vowed to write, no matter for what, no matter for whom. It was the Hurricane that winds up the confusion and spawns the thirst of finding me in me.

Yes it is true to say"writing is about exploring what is true of oneself". I found one of my friends trying to explore him. He mailed me his initial trails: Mood Recession. It was subtle. And this reaction of mine was something like" the sunshine breaking through the dimness and lighting up everything" for him. Seeing all his joy and I on the other hand, how could I dare not to agree Mr. Ruben's quote "writing is a weapon, and it's more powerful than a fist can ever be". I here remember my friend quote in Mood Recession "raindrops and teardrops, both are equally painful". This simple yet acute quote was enough to prove the power that was lying under a roof of that very man. This power of him has already given the strength to fly across the obstacles and float freely beyond the realm of wretchedness.

Time and again we talk about The Great, but we never tend to explore the Great that lies inside us. It would be nice if by any means we would be able to dig into the greatness of ourselves. Can that magic, that power dig into the human souls. For the Great yes, but haven't yet reached to me. This might be the same in the case of the author of the 'Mood Recession'. But that doesn't mean the trail has ended here. It will continue until the soul falls to one's doom.

How much time u left? This came all of a certain from our tutor this Wednesday. It neither was of KDD nor was of Data warehouse so it was a kind of difficult. Assuming 30, 40 years of life left the simple mathematics gives us the result of about 10 years of actual living time left, leaving behind all the fun, vacations, leisure and rest. This was known but was ignored by all of us and after that also it had a little impact on us. Knowingly I'm spending my active time in hi5, Facebook, Google, Wiki and all these internet kind of shit which is of no use. And all of a sudden something went through my mind today and I closed my hi5 account. Later I conclude it was because I was not being able to give full attention on facebook.

All these social networking sites are really polluting my minds. Not to forget the exclusivead on these sites. Last week I had what I call a cold war with my classmate in Facebook. Writing filthy comments on each others profile was a fun at first but gradually it became stinky and we almost had an argument on the class. After one week I ended it myself. I find everyone from teachers to office staffs and from students to lab assistant all busy playing Farmville, Café World, Crazy Taxi, Mafia War, commenting on others wall, chatting during working hours. And this epidemic is spreading rapidly than H1N1 in our college. Our friends sometime give up their breakfast to book their computers in lab during breaks. And more than that I found our senior faculty doing really great in Farmville, which was way out of my imagination. Last Friday during our lab on SQL Server Analysis only two completed their assignment, teacher thought it was because other didn't understood him but in reality all were busy with same shit called facebook. I think many of us are taking quiz, luck, social-interview, watchingexclusivead, and horoscope test time and again, and the result is you know it very well.

Twitter is another part of a story. Tried to update my status everyday but I was hopeless guess why? It is simple, facebook has done so much and how could I find something to tweet. I couldn't manage time so there's no tweet anymore. Google and blogger also alarm me every week or so. Seeing myself so busy I reconsider the question "How much time have u got ?" and this time the mathematics grew complex, subtraction played the vital role. About 6 to 8 hrs of my stay in front of the PC was deduced again and the result was just 2 year. Oh god! What am I gonna do in 2 year? Let's not spend time thinking about the solution. But I conclude something after doing math and that was "VIRTUAL WORLD SUCKS".

All for the cause

Last week I started the new cause "Allow BIT Graduate to write Er. (Registered Engineer) "in facebook. And this decision of mine didn't come just at once. I think a lot before rolling the mouse on home page of my facebook profile. The first thought that got into my nerve was "How stupid will I sound for provoking this cause?" but there is different dimension to think about. We spend 4 yrs of our life, complete 138 credit hours, invest 4lakhs, study every subject engineering students do and when we finally graduate what the hell we become? I don't know guys what really should I have to say when I graduate. But I know this for sure; I won't be an engineer.

Is there any reason for not allowing IT graduate to register in Engineering Council, or it's just a tradition to register those who graduated with the degree prefixed BE are liable for the title Er. And more than this there is another facts that makes me laugh i.e. BE graduate and IT graduate are given same responsibility in all the organizations but people hesitate to call the later one engineer. When I was kid my teacher taught me the comparative word for mean and it was "as mean as miser". But now if somebody asks me what is the best expression for mean then I have my readymade answer i.e. "as mean as NEC". If Nepal Engineering Council does not register IT graduate as an IT Engineer then what more can we say then as mean as NEC. Everyday the street of Kathmandu are burning for the cause that I never considered as the cause. It is not because I'm hate revolution but it is because I hate the way they are making the mockery of their cause. And in our case we don't want to be like those street fighters and we don't want our cause to be like theirs. As we know IT professional are the THINK TANK so we want to raise our cause in an intellectual way.

I wrote about society, I spoke on behalf of my country, I discussed for the sake of my ideology, I shouted against bad and I revolt for freedom. And again I'll write, I'll speak, I'll discuss, I'll shout and I'll revolt but it will be for a different cause. This time it will be for my career, for my future profession and for my cause" Allow BIT Graduate to write Er. (Registered Engineer) " .

Test your Fortune

Few of the college buddies went for testing their destiny; it wasn't with fortune teller but was with fortune turner of Khichapokhari, New Road. Some of you might be thinking who the hell is the fortune turner? And here is the answer E-Spot Nepal. I am in no mood to make a joke over here so let's be serious. Yesterday we went to fill the form for the EDV Lottery 2011 and once I was there in our fortune turner's office in New Road the cold chill rush through the leg and slowly swift toward my head. I was left there paralyzed in the same seat for almost 2 hours. And in front of me were ill-fated and desperate country people who were testing their luck to take off from this cursed land. Young, old, on the job, jobless, retired, women, man, it seemed that there is nobody left. Everybody trying to see how their luck flies.

I tried to examine most of their face and it wasn't simple, yet their face clearly says one thing "let's see if my destiny is really with me". More than that I can't say because I'm no Sigmund Freud. To see retired grandfather come to E- Spot and fill the EDV form was something interesting. He invest all his years, brought up family, experience good and bad and now when time came to rest and be happy for his broods; he wants to say goodbye and just go there for what I don't know and maybe he too don't know. To see government officer come with spouse and kids, talk bad about the country and show how much desperate is he to leave the country. To see college lads come and show themselves that they are no less modernize than some American dude like them. And finally to see the housewife come to E-Spot and show her itty-bitty knowledge of English was enough to paralyze me for 2 hours. And more than above there was one more interesting scene that will make the perfect human being laugh, that was four of the IT graduate come to E-Spot to fill their form because they don't know how to edit their photo and don't know how to fill the submission form online.

My friends did their job but despite staying there for almost 2 hours I returned empty handed. I don't know why I didn't fill the form. Was it to save 125 rupees (50% off to student, nice business huh), or was it that I really love my country. Second one I don't think is nice thing to say and the first one might be the nice reason as I know how to edit photos and how to fill forms online. At least that is what 3 years of stay in IT College gave to me.

Yesterday we had a little chat on tempo as Bollywood stars and a nice Hindi song painted on its wall catch a glimpse of ours. The posters of Indian Movie Starts in Wedding Invitations posters or posing in some classic hairstyle. Seeing Nepali public transport as a showroom of Bollywood industry makes us laugh on our shame. Don’t get me wrong because I’m not here to criticize those who adore Bollywood. By the way I also enjoy Bollywood songs and movies and myself I’m the great fan of Mr. Amir Khan. Back to the point, here is something where we have to lay our eyes on; decorating our vehicle with Indian celebrities and criticizing India for invading our boundaries, watching Hindi channels and reality shows every single minute you have a remote controller on your hands and blaming India for provoking Buddha’s birthplace is not in Nepal, and visiting theatre every weekend for Hindi cinema doesn’t leave us the option of blaming our stupid neighbors. what you think? Isn’t this a shame?

As a Nepali we certainly have something of our own, something really different than others that made this Himalayan topography as an independent nation and that something is what we called identity, dignity, honor, pride or whatsoever. And in this case I’m not confused but am damm sure that this thing is certainly not the Bollywood or our immense love for Hindi sayeri and dialogue. Time and often we make a gossip about the invasion of Kalapani, Susta, Tanakpur and many other places but we have never mentioned about what I called the cultural invasion. If this love for Indian glamour industry remains for the time being the day may come when there will be nothing left for you to differentiate with Indian. And that day I’m sure you will loose everything. I have tips for those who thinks that unless there is Himalaya there will be Nepal; don’t bother brothers because land doesn’t belongs to anybody what belongs to you is your glory and pride. The Indian subcontinent was a part of the British Empire, in early 20th century there wasn’t a country called an Israel and more than that today’s Europe was once the part of Napoleon conquest.

Finally always remember those beautiful aren’t yours, those hero’s aren’t yours. Why don’t you try to be happy with what you’ve got? And isn’t this a high time to try Mr. Rajesh Hamal?

Thanks for that tempo owner who makes me realize what’s mine and what’s not.

Unlucky Three’s

Yesterday I was trapped in one of the three awkward situations which I call as Unlucky Three’s. I was trying to catch the city bus back home. I just did that by running and there awaits the trap. Every seat was pack and I was the only guy standing. And the pairs of eyes equals the seat were staring at me. There I was standing pathetically with nowhere to hide my face. What I could do is just ignore those grumpy looks and stare out of the window. Those fifteen minutes and a call from my friend who told me that he too was trapped in his Unlucky Three’s inspired me to write this post. And now let’s find out the remaining of mine unlucky three. Walking in public with zipper on until some lady signals you to zip your pants and greeting Namaste with folding your both hand but the one who is to receive your humble Namaste fails to notice you. Then you left totally freaked out, won’t you? What more can we do than just say "Hey dude, better luck next time".

Apart from my Unlucky Three’s here are the Unlucky Three’s of my friend: an affair, a public transport and a rainfall. Every single unluck has its own story. First one, an affair: His family was asking him to marry a girl from family link but he refused her as he was having an affair for the last four month. As he proposes his girlfriend to marry him she replied I’m engaged. Second one, a public transport: It was the first time he ever travelled in a public transport and there she was the most beautiful girl who came to him asking "Can I have a seat?" And the last one, a rainfall: hadn’t it a rainy day he wouldn’t have taken a public transport instead of his own bike and she her own scotter. More than his unlucky three’s he blame one more unluck: time. Citing the example of the Brad Pitt starrer "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" he told me, had I accepted my family proposal? Had I known earlier that she was engaged? Had I taken another bus? Had there been another seat in that bus? Had it been a sunny day? And had I not been that much possessive about her?

Hey guys what would you do at times like these? Think about it because some day you may find your Unlucky Three. I found my right choice: blogging. And my friend found his: vodka.

Nobel peace prize and bombing beyond the globe

Two different news hits national and international media this weekend first one was the US President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize and the second one was the NASA scientist bombing the surface of moon aiming for the possibility of water in its surface. The both news surprised the population around the globe. No matter how unrelated these incidents might seem to the public but the impact was same for me. Same in a sense they both lightened the flame of hope. The dream to transform the world of nuclear power and violence into the mutual society and the hope of finding the trace of life or water in moon surface are the greatest dream in the modern human society. And the news this weekend is something like a dream on its way to come true.

Once we go through the twitter, CNN, BBC, facebook or other media we can see thousands of comment posted every hours and the debate is ever growing on whether it is the right time to felicitate Obama with this prestigious award. Early stage of his tenure with so little been achieved, the decision might seem crazy too. There are people who say this award doesn’t mean for nice speeches, favoulous voice or the popularity of the person. This too seems okay. And I’m no one to judge these all. We all know Obama is a perfect human being. Apart from above queries I too have one. Can’t we felicitate a guy for bombing a hope around the globe? A hope for the limitless future.

Moon though was the object beyond the imagination, today human has achieved the unachievable. I never understood why people say sky is the limit but seeing all this I think my nerve is getting a little of it. It was human who defined the boundaries and limits and yet again it is the human who has undone the boundary kind of thing. Who says there is the limit? No there isn’t any. This is the hope the bombing beyond the globe gave to us. A hope for the limitless tomorrow. So I’m not gonna hesitate to say that the two news of the weekend were similar to me no matter how ridiculous I may sounds.

I was dogging in front of my PC trying to figure out the title for my next post in Youth Mind. A lot went through my stupid BBC’S I mean through my stupid Brain But Crazy Shit. Current affairs, problems, impressive stories, criticism and many more but nothing worked out. After an hour of thinking I decided why not write about nothing. Yes nothing, just write. No title, no pros and cons, no conclusions, no suggestions, no criticism, and more than that no more thinking. No more worries about the reactions from the readers because “this blog is something that may not meant to be read but is meant to be written” haha some crazy line I heard in Hollywood kind of thing.
These days facebook’s status is filled with the title of the Bollywood movie wake up this, wake up that. I don’t know this is the love for the movie or my friends trying to figure them out like Sid: cute, carefree, fun loving, kid like and nevertheless bindas. I don’t know why everybody wants to portrait them like a hero happy, charming, …… maybe its what we call a human nature. Last week I went for a Nepali movie hoping to write something in facebook’s status but my status remained silent about the 2 and half an hour of my stay in a theater. Maybe my human nature failed. I didn’t wish to be a hero. Today also I’m trying to figure out why?
A driver tuned FM which was playing John Denver ‘country road’ while I was returning home for the vacation. It made me excited; I started planning for my vacation and a long list was in front of me that night before I went to bed. And halfway through my vacation here is the list still in my table untouched not the single item erased. This is the result if you planned something. While writing this I played the same song and again all my memories gather around my childhood. The plan with similar long list of activities on every new session’s of school. After these many years I’m here still making plan, listing my desire. I don’t know when I will start to erase them from the list. I’m wondering will my list be done one day?

Change i don't want: THE NATIONAL FLAG

No comment yet
Every time I start to write something for my blog I always find myself in dilemma strangled with many questions and unsolved mysteries. And yet again this was the same. The hot news this weekend about changing nepali national flag made me grieve seeing the intellectual status (I couldn’t decide a word to explain their pathetic thinking so I just mentioned it as intellectual status though it is a sarcastic) of the so called revolutionary and reformist. This news has not only hit the nepali media but also other international media like hindustan times(see the news in Hindustan Times ). Statue were broken in the name of change, colleges, parks, buildings and monuments were renamed in the name of change and this time someone is trying to change the national flag again in the name of change.

It doesn’t count whether some ruler during some regimes in history were a Suryavamsi or others were Chandravamsi. What counts now is our faith, our belief and our interpretation of the facts. And the fact for me is that this national flag is our history, our identity, our spirit and symbol of our national unity. It has been so since ages and it will be the same for the time to come. So far I know thousands of our fellow Nepali citizens also think the same. The prime reasons they have stated is that this flag signifies feudalism. I’m so confused coz I haven’t yet found any relation between so called feudalism and bitriangular national flag with sun and moon engraved on it. I just want to know from when did the sun and the moon started to signify feudalism, from when did the red color that have been the symbol of pride and sacrifice (not for normal citizen but for so called reformist and the communist also) have become the symbol of slavery and from when did the blue color also known as the color of peace and harmony started to provoke Hinduism and Buddhism only? Also people say flag is not inclusive. Why not try this, let’s cut a piece of a flag and distribute among the leaders of various parties, religion and ethnic groups. What more are doing in the name of inclusion and participation more than just dividing what we have.

Finally I have a question to ask for those who felt the urgency of changing the flag despite having thousands of problems still to be solved. Are we trying to destroy all we have in the name of change? But comrade, be careful this is not what corers of Nepali expected from you. What we were expecting was to destroy feudalism, international intervention, inequality and poverty in the shadow of your prominent leadership. Or are you just trying to hide your incapability by blaming some abstract and irrelevant thing like “THE NATIONAL FLAG”.

Exam shock and post exam syndrome

I think most people have experienced post exam syndrome. I am not sure how to express this but I’m pretty much sure that by one or the other way it is same with many of us. Long and tiring days of exam with no time to think about a piece out of books, deeply involved with studies and giving damm about the world this is exams for me. Once it is over then I felt like “Where am I?” as if I’m back from comma. I felt like I’m in completely different world with so much to enjoy, so much to experience. And this exam sucks coz it didn’t let us to even smell the flavor of this beautiful world.

People say I hate exam and I too would like to say it sometime. It won’t surprise me as well but what surprise me is that almost all of us have done with dozens of exam in our life and every time we say we hate exams, we hate books and when it is over we again say wahhh the world is beautiful…oh god! Finally its over……shit man it is the same again…and many other desperate words that best describes our post exam emotion. The shock repeats every year, every semester, every trimester and sometime every month in the name of board exams, internal assessments, unit tests and surprise assessments as well. And for this I always compare exam with earthquake that ruins everything, shatter every beautiful piece out of this world. What you people thinks? Isn’t exam an earthquake of your foxy life? Like earthquake exam is also inevitable, we can’t stop it but what we can do is keep ourselves safe from this mishap. For this let’s do something. Why don’t we try to implement COD theory? By the way COD means “cooperate to dominate” i.e. let’s come together to dominate the bourgeois belief of exam.

Most of we think that we are the only one who is suffering from phobia and post phobia shock but smile guys because there is not a single person in this world who hasn’t gone through this unless he/she is Robinson Crusoe or Mr. Adam. But what I fear most is the post exam syndrome. I think the joy is uncontrollable and choices are unlimited so is there anyone who can pick a piece from a pool? I hope this happiness remain forever. But, what by the end of the semester? Ahhhh it will be back again.

Books Are Something Different

It’s been almost four year since I first got chance to read “Palpasa Café”. I borrowed it from my friend and finished it on one stand. In fact it was him who suggested me to read. And I would like to thank him for lending me the novel that is now one of my favourite, thank you Bnay. At that time it was in every newspaper that Narayan Wagle felicitated by Madan Puraskar for the year for his outstanding work “Palpasa Café”. I liked it so much that soon I bought one, but I lost it later. Some stupid fellow borrowed from me and never return it again. And today also I hate lending book to anyone.

Last month I finished the world best seller “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. And don’t know really what to say about it because I am not a fan of fantasy based novel. But I can definitely say that ours are not bad. Spending free time with books and being with the character at least till the book is open is simply great. I don’t know how many character I went through but it is Drishya who is still fresh in my memories. That doesn’t mean Santiago is not. I also remember mesmerizing Natasha Rostov from War and Peace, Ryan from Five Point Someone, Rishi from Tutor of History and who could forget the great Pelageia Nilovna from The Mother. Everybody wants to do something different and that is what I always try to do in my free time: New books, new character, new circumstances and nevertheless new experience. If any of you are thinking what to do in your free time then why don’t you try being with some of these character who has been so outstanding in the field of literature.

In Nepal, people always hate to read mostly youngsters. They don’t like themselves being with the bulk of books and freak themselves out. They think they don’t like to waste their precious time with books and miss a chance to enjoy with friends, movies and outings. This trend is taking us to nowhere. Just try few hours of your free time to read something and you’ll start liking it soon. You have all time in earth to be with your friends, watch movies, disco or something else and giving a piece of it to books won’t ruin your adulthood. And I’m sure that it will help you a lot later when you start working. It will help you to build yourself as a perfect person. So let’s take a break, look for a book ………… don’t find one? Sorry bro I can’t help coz I hate lending books. Why don’t you go for the bookstores? Don’t worry you will enjoy it. Just give a chance who knows you may be the one to explore the new character like Drishya, Natasha or Santiago in future.

Appolo11 & Danfe

”That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind” the whisper from an astronaut Nil Armstrong in July 20 1969 just before he steps on the surface of moon was a dream come true for human being. We can see people celebrate this achievement in CNN and in BBC. It’s been 40 years since and now the world is preparing to repeat the history, but in Mars. But in our part of the world, seeing people dying with no medicine from Kantipur, Avenues and ABC is painful. This historic day may not count for we people who are struggling for food and medicine but for mankind it is the day of great honor and success. These achievements encourage us to dream. Once it was the moon, now it’s the mars and in future it might be…… (dream urself).

Some of we may think how we can dream of such things if we can’t even manufacture a bicycle. And it is true in some extent. But what we need is to just dream with different perspective. We used to dream for just dreaming but today let’s dream to make it true. Always remember that people used to laugh at Da Vinci when he made the picture of flying object, people depicted Laxmi Prasad Devkota insane when he dreamt of conquering moon and nobody give a damm to Wright brothers until 17th December 1903(first successful flight). And I don’t mind if somebody laughs at me reading this. Because I believe “people who don’t have dream don’t have much”. And guess what? I’m a dreamer. If their dream can be real and why can’t ours?

It is true that Nepal has never been the place of invention and discovery. Since history it has been roaming around traditions and cultures. Despite that we had made an attempt to keep pace with the world. But now it’s high time we start to walk together not just follow them. The successful test flight of Danfe in December 7, 2008 (first successful test flight of plane made in Nepal) in Pokhara is something that we must be proud of. Thank you IOE guys. Never mind that we are 105 years 11 months and 10 days behind the schedule but some day we are gonna walk together. Today we have our Danfe and one day we can build our own Apollo11. Now we are taking off just 25 meter and who knows we can be the one who will conquer Mars. If Rajendra Bhatta can work in NASA why can’t we? So guys let’s start dreaming. Who knows may be we’re the one to repeat the sentence of Nil Armstrong in Mars.

Yesterday I listened Yatri written by Laxmi Prasad Devkota and sung by Robin Sharma. I just listen, listen and listen. I don’t know how many times but I’m sure I listened until I was satisfied, until my thirst was quenched. The song really is second to none. Its melody always gives you the feeling of inner satisfaction and the lyrics who dare to comment hauh? I don’t know what Devkota was trying to say but for me it won’t count because I simply liked it and that’s it. I’m crazy for it.

Let’s change a topic, I remember my teacher telling us that “we don’t have any idol of whom we can be proud of and say, see I want to be like Mr.XYZ”. He means to say that there are no great people born in Nepal from whom we can take inspiration, whose philosophy can be our destination. I didn’t think a second and I agreed to him. More than that I never liked thinking about it. Ill system with hopeless administrator, this is our society. And there is no point thinking about it and wasting my time. It’s been nearly a year since we had had that lecture and nothing is changed rather it is worst. Today I want to tell my teacher isn’t Devkota the great? Can’t he be my idol? But I know idols are sweet dream, dream in a sense that when you want to visualize yourself in future just look them. And at present dream isn’t sufficient to success. So my answer won’t satisfy my teacher and I gave up the thought of meeting him and explain about my idol.

Today as a student of Purbanchal University I can do no more than listen these songs and help myself spend some time. It should have been the exam time, I should have been with my books but the notice came stating that ”due to some internal problem the exam is postponed for the time being” and I’m here with facebook, blog, movies and music. It’s already one month since I told my friends and family that I have an exam and I’m still telling them and don’t know for how many more month I should say it. I know they will surely think that I’m a maniac. And guys it’s not me who is maniac it’s the system. This ill system that point out Devkota as Lunatic and send Ranchi. So who cares about it haina ra.

Career Career Career

Dear friends,

Last few days I was thinking about what actually we can do in Nepal. What are the fields where our future is secure, where we can pursue our dreams? This thought came to my mind when Real Madrid signed the Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo for the record breaking £80 million bid. You know it very well that we Nepali always think that medical, engineering and pilots are the only field which give us status and no doubt money also. Our parents don’t want their children to have other field in mind also. They give these careers much emphasis and pump up our mind so much that we see ourselves in a white apron with a stethoscope round our neck or flying planes. As a result a child when asked what your aim kid, then the answers simply is a doctor or an engineer or point toward the sky. And I’m not amazed in this because I too had a dream wearing white apron. And am sure that you too had the same. This is no more than the childhood fantasy. When time comes to choose our career this will count no more as it is far beyond how things are.

Recently SLC result is out and thousands of youngsters are thinking about their career. The trend of our society is that if you’ve scored distinction then you just join science, first division management, and second humanities and so on. We always make a choice of our career according to our score not with accordance to our dream. In most cases our senior decides what we should be in future. So SLC guys don’t bother about it, just go for what your parent say. This isn’t bad also as every parents want their children futures with flying colors. And I’m sure your parents also want the same. Sports, entertainment, tourism, literature, journalism, research etc that are so renowned in other country are hardly considered as a profession in Nepal. Low payment and lower status of the professional in society are the key issue that tends these job to be a low profile job in our society. So why wasting time thinking about them?

The books that are sold few thousand copies will be the Bestseller in Nepali literature and that isn’t sufficient to earn the living also. Anil Gurung being the most paid player in Nepal receives only NRS 0.32 million annually. Nepali movie made on the total budget of few million rupees aren’t sufficient to make entertainment as an industry. Comparing the stardom of global celebrities like Michal Jackson, AR Rahaman, Tom Hanks, JLo and ours is a witticism. And more than that nobody give a shit about our celebrities. Tourism though having lion’s share in our national economy isn’t risk free. Frequent strikes, unsafe and unmanaged transportation and juvenile communication system is sure to bring your tourism career to a ruin. These are the few examples of contemporary Nepal. Everything we see and everywhere we go nothing is good. Who can think of a career where 70% are unemployed and millions are flying abroad seeking jobs. So either manage yourself in medicine or engineering or find a way out of this hopeless land. Otherwise you’ll be considered as a looser here.

For those who want to fight for their career in Nepal, always remember “LIVE WELL. IT IS THE GREATEST REVANGE".

Wising for the bright and pleasant career.

War we don't want

Last night I watched a documentary about the war against Taliban in SWAT valley of Pakistan. And late night I got a chance to watch another movie DIVIDED WE FALL, similar to the previous one but made on quite different circumstances of World War II. Both were about war so no doubt there was brutality embodied inside those stories. Corpse lying everywhere, people in tears mourning in the loss of their relatives, houses, school and hospital torn down into ashes and nevertheless, humanity vanquish by cruelty. These horror scenes were just a part of the horrific world where 70% of total population survives because of war. It seems a little bit awful to say such a thing but it true. Our 70% of the population depends on the money that comes from arms business. 42 million are displaced and living in camps, 163 are dying everyday in Iraq and don’t know how many in Sudan, Middle East, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and more. People dying in civil wars of Africa, Asia and South America are keeping us alive. If they don’t we have to.

But here in Nepal we have already lost 16000 lives and millions of property in last decade and we still are not out of it. And everyday we fear war. News channel are broadcasting nonsense saying of our insane leaders. If not this we will go to war, this is time to do next revolution, and our democracy is in trap and many more. This is nothing more than a maniacal expression. The political interest vested deep inside them is causing these problems in Nepal. I don’t think a single leader understand this. They don’t care what people will have to go through. Just fulfill your interest by any means. Or it might be because they care about us, known about the above mention facts they are trying to contribute for saving 70% of the world population. This might be ok risking life of minority for the sake of majority. But unfortunately this is not going to work.

Recently we have seen an example of the monstrous deed in Kathmandu, 18 years old girl kidnapped, cut into pieces and murdered. In Terai news are coming everyday that people are burnt alive, vehicle are ambushed and government offices are blown by bombs. In districts dozen of people are injured in clashes between different political groups. Casualties in road accident are normal. Sometime we hardly work one day in a week because of a strike. And we still say we are not in war. We are losing dozen of life everyday; children are kidnapped now and again; property worth million is lost because of all these pointless strikes. What more do we want, isn’t this enough? Don’t measure your gain with the pile of the corpse because an individual life is not a joke, it worth more than that. We all know what the consequences of war are like. We have seen many relentless wars in human history and it is true many of them were fought because of the personal interest of the leaders. And we don’t want history to repeat at least in Nepal.

We don’t want Nepal to be something like SWAT valley or a Darfur. We don’t want cruelty, violence and destruction in Nepalese soil. What we want is peace, prosperity and harmony among people. What we want is a beginning. A beginning that will lead us to the new era. A beginning that will bring the change we are talking about. We should all remember that DIVIDED WE FALL UNITED WE WIN.

We were great and we can be

Today I went through several groups in facebook because I was thinking which are the most popular groups among Nepali? And to my surprise most of them were anti Indian like Gautam Buddha was born in Nepal not in India, Extortions of our land by India lets fight for it and many more similar groups. There are tens of group formed on the same spirit where thousands of Nepali are member. The comments posted on these groups’s wall were full of gall words against India. That was something serious to think about. Using all these violent and rough words against our neighbor and illustrating her as prime mover of our problem will do no good to us. Blaming other for our awful condition has become something like custom to we Nepali. As people say “looser always ask for excuses and this is no more than an excuse.

It is the trend of the world that strong will always shake off the weak one. Let’s pay attention to our history where we were once like the Great Himalayan Empire. From Tista River in the east to the Kangada Fort in the west was our boundary which was almost double to that of the present. We were the one who fought gallantly against British Empire and save our land. India was ruled by outlander for almost two century but we initiated the alliance against British in Asia under our provident leadership. Once upon a time our enemy used to break out in a sweat hearing our name. During our unification campaign many small Indian state were wiped off the map and I am sure that at that time those people also used to think the same as we do now. We occupied them because we were strong and maybe India is trying the same as they think they are strong now.

See we were the top dog. We did everything to annihilate them and we felt we did well. So we have to be strong and no one can do anything to us. We were great and we can be. Scolding others won’t save us nor will we be able to defeat them. But this doesn’t mean that we have to protect our homeland like our ancestor did, fighting and conquering others. The world is changed and so does the frontier of the war. Today strong are not those who have millions of army and ammunitions but strong are those who have strong economy, strong market, advance technology and moral citizen. I think we have the resources to achieve this. We can build our country to be the one like India if we do this then there is no need to use those greedy words. Be a decent neighbor and you’ll get respect. And be a noble citizen and we can be the Great again.

It was very nice to listen everybody talk about environment, climate and earth, organizing big seminar, discussion, rally and many more. Seeing all this I thought “Owa! Everybody changed, thanks god now its time to see our home out of danger.” But today everything is gone. Nobody care what’s going on? Our home is falling off every second. We knowingly or unknowingly shouldering for the ravaging of the nature. No body is willing to think about the impact on the environment because of their deed. Countries like US and China always talk nice about climate change but they never operate on it. Because of so called first world country and their industrialization third world is suffering a lot. Here in third world we are deprive of many facility of modern world and now we are deprive of good environment also. In Nepal due to climate change our only property, water and its source the Himalayas has been cast down a lot in the last decade and in coming few we may see no snow in our mountain and what about our rivers? What about our dream of exporting electricity?

From this very moment we have to do something, something that will save our home, save our planet. Change starts from individual, from our own doorsteps so don’t seek others to change. It’s you who can change. The only you can do about others is hope, hope them to change. If you change yourself and one day the whole world will change because this world is full of the one like you. I don’t know how you all feel but for me if I can do any of the following things daily then I think I’m changed.

# Don’t let tap run while shaving, brushing teeth and washing face
# Use towel instead of tissue paper for drying your face
# Don’t forget to switch off lights when going out
# Use both side to print a document
# Instead of buying books borrow it from library
# Always go out with bag so that you can so no to plastic whenever you shop
#Use public transport instead of private car and bike. If not possible look for the fuel efficient vehicle
# If your are one of the many unlucky fellow who spend their morning stuck in jam then turn off your engine
# Match the size of cooking pan to the size of heating element
# And don’t forget to plant the tree in your garden

Above point may seem a little bit meaner but always remember that “the easier the better is the society”. Consider the planet as your home and take its care like your own. Always remember that what you do to keep the Environment clean, you are doing for your children's good health. And I’m sure you all love your children. We can all do our part to protect the planet by using less and acting more. So talk less and act more.

If Not There Will Be No Nepal My Friends

Today my friend Sandeep came to me and asked to listen a song “Save Us” by Colonial Cousin. When I was listening the song many gruesome incidents were running through my mind. Kapilvastu riot after the murder of Mohit Khan, Hindu Muslim riot of India and many ethnic riots in Africa are some of the outrageous example of the religious war. I don’t know if there are more links between all these incidents and the song but it is sure that Colonial Cousin is referring to refrain away from them. As the song say:

“Religion is the reason;

the world is breaking now into pieces.

Color of the people, Keeps us locked in hate,

please release us”

And I am also in unison with the theme of the song. No matter what name you call Jesus, Allah, Rama or Buddha? It’s all the same. It is true that we all believe in the divine power which is above all of us. We named it what is convenient for us. Some say Jesus, some Allah, some Ram and some Buddha. But we should understand that there is nothing in name. It is the belief that matters here. We all have some discipline which we are practicing for ages in the name of that divine power and we want others to respect it. This is what religious tolerance is all about – how much we put up with others’ beliefs and how much we try to understand them.

But writing all this about religious tolerance I should not miss one fact about the ethnic delusion which is slowly sprouting in Nepal. We Nepali are living in peace and harmony for many years irrespective of our religion and cast. We called ourselves चार जात छत्तिस वर्णको साझा फुलबारी। and we do believe in it now also. But in the name of change and restructuring of the country we are being poisoned against each other. The mutual respect is dying and hatred is circulating rapidly between us. There are many ways to manipulate our endeavor of making new Nepal. There are many way to get equal right and respect and protect our culture. But this feeling of discourtesy is leading us to nothing except destruction. We have seen this kind of creepy omen in the Valley Banda by Newars last Sunday and in many more strike in the eastern Nepal and Terai organized by many ethnic groups. If we don’t understand it now and continue this for some more in coming days then we should be ready to see ourselves in the complete ruin. We should show respect to others and try to understand them. If not the war is here. If not there will be no Nepal my friend.
